Miscellany 2

As before, a small collection of improvements done when I haven't the time to tackle the big one.

First off, we had some very good friends over for the weekend, and, as is tradition, any friends who come to visit get to/have to do a little art on the inside of our front door.
That'll get more and more fun and chaotic as we have more friends over.

We also picked up a new (to us) stacking washer/dryer to replace the absolutely scary setup in the basement that came with the house.
When the time comes to renovate the upstairs bathroom (which will be the first room to catch a gut and redo in the house as soon as the major glaring livability issues are addressed) it's going to be changed around slightly to accept a stacking washer/dryer, but in the meantime, they do tuck into a little alcove between the sink and the tub.
As a temporary thing, until we get the bathroom renovation all sorted out, the washer is able to drain into the tub, and, incidentally, there's a bathroom window we can send the dryer vent out! That'll get us washing our clothes at home again, the laundromat is a pain. These aren't hooked up yet but they soon will be.

Next up, we got all but one of the opening windows screened up, which means we should now be bug free in the house.
And finally for tonight, we got a little cooling/airflow happening in the house. The property is sorounded by trees and near both a mountain and several creeks, all which mean though it does get considerably above 30C during the daytime, it does drop to a much more manageable 9C or so at night. We have been opening our bedroom and living room windows, both with nice screens over them, but it's still been a little warm in the bedroom. I COULD just buy a fan but I already had an industrial Princess Auto centrifugal blower fan kicking around the house, and some knowledge of airflow, so instead I rigged this up for now.
The fan sits in the living room window, blowing out, the pizza box seals the remaining screened area ensuring no recirculation in the living room. All windows in the house save the master bedroom (which is on the opposite corner of the house) are closed which means so long as the master bedroom door stays open a bit, I've turned the entire house into one big duct.

Fresh air is drawn through the master bedroom window, through it's door, down through the kitchen and hallway, into the living room where it's sucked in by the blower and fired out the hole in the cardboard in the living room. It's a little goofy sure, but as I lay here and type this, it's noticeably cooler in the master bedroom than it has been, and the only noise is a very quiet and soothing white noise whooshing coming from a fan clean across the entire house. It's also actually moving a fair amount of fresh air into the house as I confirmed with my incredibly scientific airflow measuring instrument.
And that's all for tonight, a cooler and more bug free home :)
